I ordered this cookbook for my son because we gave him a tailgating style grill for Christmas and wanted to add some fun accessories to go with it. He and his friends tailgate all of the time and I thought it would be cool if he made some fun foods to share instead of eating every one else's food without contributing any himself! I paged through the book before I wrapped it for him and thought the recipes seemed easy and doable for a single young male. The recipes were clearly written, with good details, had pictures and grocery lists so surely he can't go wrong. I also liked the fact that this is board book and that the pages can be washed if he spills on it. He seemed pleased with the book and his new grill.

These are by far one of the best quick and easy meal cook books ever made! Not to mention they would be great for survival meal planning if you think about it. Most of the ingredients are cans or dried items added to one meat. I highly recommend these!! There are more then one.

My grandson loves it - as much as my son loved his copy at that age.

I ordered, A Man, a Can, a Tailgate Plan. I received A Man, a Can and a Grill. I reordered the original cookbook, keeping the "wrong" book, just in case the preferred book did not arrive in time. The event was a Tailgate themed card club. The "Tailgate book" arrived after the party date. Bummer....'had to gift the one that wasn't as 'right-on' as the Tailgate book.

This was a gift for my sons who recently moved out. They love the ease of the recipes and say they are very good

For Xmas, I gave the Man & Can series to my college-age sons who are moving into "landlord" housing this semester. These cookbooks, with their easy to follow, illustrated recipes, prove that cooking is not hard and can be fun! Cooking for yourself is a lot cheaper and healthier than fast food. These cookbooks give them a place to start! They were really tickled with the gift, even though, their buddies thought it a bit odd. My sons told me that their buddies will appreciate the books, too, once they are eating the good food made from them!

I just bought this cookbook at my son's book fair this afternoon and am already loving it! The recipes are easy, fast and completely tailored after a man's appetite requirements (think meat and potatoes) . Since I am the only female in a house of men, this type of cookbook is exactly what I was looking for. It contains 50 simple meals and snacks that men will adore-what more could a woman ask for? Buy this if you want the man in your life to be amazed at your sudden culinary skills or to give to a college bound son or nephew who is in need of fast, easy, filling fare.

Good book

Really helpful for my study of early monastic writings (rules in particular). I was writing a paper on what influenced St. Benedict's Rule.

This is a fascinating look at what one saint believed were the core concepts of any successful and authentic monastic community. Though I'm no monk nor Christian, I deeply appreciate the wisdom which Saint Augustine shared in his vision.

The Rule is amazingly brief and unexpectedly vague. Commentary is certainly necessary, but this is really too much, and too dense.

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone wanting to help their children understand the Gospels more. Marigold Hunt fulfills her goal as she states it on the back of the book of explaining life during the time of Christ from how they lived, dressed, spoke and other customs. She gives great historical background and explanation in an engaging and entertaining way. My children love this book and couldn't wait to read the next book over Acts called "The First Christians".Her books bring the Bible to life. My children say that her book makes everything make sense. I learned a lot from the book and the next as well especially about the Mass is not something created during the Middle Ages but based off of the Scripture and traditions of Christ and the first Christians.When we read this book, we started with this book first followed by the Gospels. Prior to reading this book, they found the Gospels confusing at times. Now, having learned about life and customs back then, things that did not make sense make sense and they can see and are excited about seeing more in the Gospels. When we read her book The First Christians, we read the sections of the Acts in the Bible first for each chapter followed by the corresponding chapter in her book. I have never seen my kids so excited about reading the Bible now that they can understand what is going on more. It is really neat.

We love, love, love this book! I'm reading 2-3 pages a day to my 7, 6, and 4 year olds. The language is beautiful...easy to understand, but the author did not "dumb it down" like many children's books. I really appreciate that aspect. Presenting our Lord's life to children in a way that's beautiful and easy to understand. They're really absorbing a lot from this book, and honestly, so am I! This will definitely remain on our shelf as a favorite to read again and again.

I was so pleased to find this book. Though written in 1939, the language is clear and straight-forward and accessible. On the back is a note from the author - I assume it was originally a preface. Hunt writes, "....The reason the same story takes so much longer to tell in this book is that the men who wrote the Gospels just went straight on and hardly even stopped to explain anything. They couldn't be expected to know how differently we would live, and that we would have forgotten how people dressed and spoke and built their houses, and the other customs they had in those days. So in this book, I have to stop and explain all the time, but after you have read it, a good deal of the explaining will have been done, and you can start reading the Gospels yourself anytime you want." Well, my own kiddo has renewed her interest in the Bible after just a few pages with this book. Its retelling is gentle and warm, and the artwork is just enough to lend interest. The illustrator is Ted Schluenderfritz (that's 14 letters in that there name, folks, and typing all that just goes to prove his artwork for this book is worth taking note of!) A portfolio of his work can be seen at [...] This is an excellent book for reading aloud to pre-K's up to young readers. It shines as a religious ed. text for homeschoolers in early to mid elementary.

We bought this book for our history this year. I have kids aged 5 and 7 and its very dry. It is a book that is recommended by RC History and several others for history but its hard to keep our attention. Would be a great book for older kids since the information is nicely laid out.

We have bought some religious books for our children in the past that had received great reviews, but were very dry or over their heads, so I was a little skeptical about this one.Happily, I can report that this one is far from dry and holds the attention of our four and six year old boys (the audience is a little older, I believe, but there is still plenty they absorb). My husband and I enjoy it also.

Great book for those kids who are ready for more than is in most childrens' Bibles.
