This is an affordable workbook that supplements the textbook. As the parent of a Radiology student, Radiation Protection is the subject that I am most concerned about because it directly affects the health and safety of my child as well as the patient. Due to this fact, I became involved by helping my child study the course material during the semester. This workbook not only helped to reinforce my child's understanding of the subject matter in the textbook, it also helped to educate me and relieve some of the fear I had for my child entering the field of Radiology. I highly recommend this Radiation Protection workbook.

An over all good book. The shipping. Was very fast and the book itself is exactly as described.

the book bindings were starting on their way out, but thats to be expected of a paper back book. Just wished they didn't charge so much for outdated info and bad backing

This workbook is a great study guide and has helped me with understanding the material. The textbook only has 10 questions at the end of each chapter so it's not as good by itself. I would recommend getting this workbook along with the textbook to help studying and understanding.

I had to buy this book for school, but I enjoyed using it for my class. It is easy to read and understand. If you do CE credits from the Gage website you can also use this to complete one of their tests and get 17 CE credits which I did last year. I recommend!

Was the book I needed and got it pretty quickly.

Ok, it's a textbook!

This book help so much to get me through xray school. It has plenty of pictures and notes to help you understand the field of xray.

Evolution of a Corporate Idealist: When Girl Meets Oil, by Christine Bader

Review

“The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist is a quick read, effortlessly gulped during a long airplane flight. The writing is clear and concise, and if the book doesn’t leave one convinced that every multinational has suddenly developed a guiding conscience, it does offer some encouragement that many are on the way." ―The New York Times “Christine Bader's The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist paints a vivid picture of the changing world of business, the rise of sustainability as a value in many companies, and the author's own awakening to the complexity of corporate responsibility. Written as a lively and compelling narrative, the book goes beyond recounting Bader's ups and downs in a decade at BP to offer deep insight into the central importance of morality in any job, company, or life.” ―Dan Esty, Hillhouse Professor, Yale University; author, Green to Gold “Business must be part of the solution to the complex challenges facing our planet. This requires authentic and committed leaders at all levels within a company working together to help make this a reality. In The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist: When Girl Meets Oil, Christine Bader gives us a firsthand account of what it takes to get this right and provides some salutary lessons about what it means when companies get it wrong.” ―Paul Polman, CEO, Unilever “Companies increasingly recognize that they have a legitimate interest in respecting human rights. Christine Bader has been on the front lines of both setting and implementing human rights standards for business, and provides an engaging narrative of what it takes to ensure that human rights are a reality for all.” ―Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland; former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights “With insight and humor, Christine Bader sheds light on the inner workings of multinational business. The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist is a must-read for all of us who care about ensuring that ethics and morality have their rightful place on the business agenda.” ―William H. Donaldson, 27th chairman, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; co-founder, former chairman and CEO, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette "For all those who have seen what multinational corporations are doing and wondered, "What were they thinking?" ― read this book! Bader takes us deep inside big business, past the slick P.R. and newspaper headlines. Whether you resonate with the title "Corporate Idealist" or think it’s an oxymoron, this book is a fascinating read. Love Big Oil or hate it, you'll never look at it the same." ―Annie Leonard, Founder, The Story of Stuff Project "Christine Bader writes as she is: genuine, funny, compassionate, on a constant search for truth and impact. The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist: When Girl Meets Oil is a unique and valuable contribution to one of the greatest challenges of the modern era: how to leverage the creativity and drive of business to achieve a just and sustainable world." ―Aron Cramer, President and CEO, BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) "Too many companies ― and the investors and consumers that support them ― still take a short-term, narrow view that is threatening our planet; the 'sustainability' movement has often felt like one step forward, two steps back. In The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist: When Girl Meets Oil, Christine Bader gives us an insider's perspective on why that is the case. I relate to her struggle between optimism and pessimism, and suspect many others will too." ―Jeffrey Hollender, founder and former CEO, Seventh Generation "The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist is a deeply personal reflection on a vastly neglected subject: the hopes and successes, disappointments and disillusionments, of corporate social responsibility practitioners in global companies. Christine Bader recounts her own journey, starting with infatuation and fulfillment, to feeling jilted, experimenting with taming capitalism through the United Nations, and ending up back in the private sector, a bit bruised but considerably wiser. This makes for an eminently readable introduction to the bourgeoning field of corporate social responsibility." ―John G. Ruggie, Harvard University; former U.N. special representative for business & human rights "Girl meets Big Oil, Big Oil breaks girl's heart. So far, so predictable. But Christine Bader's extraordinary, warts-and-all memoir reveals what happens when idealism and business converge in both the heart and the mind." ―John Elkington, co-founder of Environmental Data Services (ENDS), SustainAbility and Volans; co-author, The Power of Unreasonable People. "Bader’s memoir is a refreshing change from the many business books―including others on the same topic of corporate responsibility and related themes―that consist of faceless management frameworks and to-do lists. There is nothing abstract about her tale of an idealistic young woman falling in and out of love with the BP corporation, and coming to terms with its complexity." ―Ann Graham, contributing editor at strategy + business

(Full disclosure: Christine Bader and I went to college together (overlapping one year) and she is a friend.) Christine Bader has written an engaging, brutally honest, thought-provoking book about her experiences, first with BP and later with the United Nations, as what she calls a Corporate Idealist. (This term is used throughout the book and always capitalized, as if it were an official title.) She defines the term in her prologue as referring to members of "a global army of people fighting for better social and environmental practices inside multi-national companies -- with mixed success."I came to the book a decided skeptic about whether major corporations ever see it in their best interests to commit resources towards socially and environmentally responsible practices, particularly when there is often such an obvious profit motive in ignoring such issues in favor of doing everything as efficiently (i.e. cheaply) as possible. Bader, as one would expect, makes a convincing case that corporations ignore these concerns at their peril, and does a fine job outlining the hidden costs of ignoring the social consequences of corporate actions. (She frequently uses the example of how much money can be lost when business operations have to be shut down, even just for a couple of days, due to protesters who are objecting to the business' practices.) The detailed accounts of her work for BP in Indonesia and China are fascinating and, at times, inspiring, as the reader sees how Bader and her fellow Corporate Idealists were able to achieve concrete successes that served both the interests of BP and the communities in those countries in which it was operating. I still count myself somewhat skeptical on the issue, but Bader shows that it can at least be done on a micro level.By the time the Deepwater Horizon disaster thrust BP into the international headlines, Bader had moved on to a position at the United Nations. Although her disappointment in BP's response to that incident is palpable within the pages of the book, I myself was disappointed not to read a more detailed criticism of the way in which BP addressed the disaster and what it said about the company in general. It's possible I wanted more inside politics than Bader was willing to deliver. The final chapter of the book, in which Bader surveys several of her fellow Corporate Idealists in a sort of State-of-the-Revolution summary, reads like a manifesto for anyone interested in this line of work, and indeed for anybody who is frustrated that more companies don't seem to pay attention to any motivation other than the almighty bottom line. The statements of Bader and her other CI's are candid about how difficult and frustrating it can be to battle against corporate policies and practices that have been in place for decades or even centuries, but these declarations are tempered with appreciation of how far this movement has come. You don't have to be an idealist (corporate or otherwise) to enjoy this book. Christine Bader has a lot to say about how major corporations should operate and the obligations they owe to the communities in which they operate and the world at large. Even if you don't agree with what she says, she will force you to think about the role of corporations in contemporary society. It ought to be required reading at business schools around the country, if not the world.

The authenticity of the author's passion for this work shines throughout this book, which makes it a very easy and compelling read. Bader expertly walks that fine line - providing insight without being preachy, inspiring without sounding out of touch. Her experiences, from the hallways of BP to the UN and then advising companies on human rights cuts to the core of these issues: they are complex, evolving, huge and tangled - and no one institution will solve them alone, let alone one person. Her call to action, for a movement of "corporate idealists" to take on the hard work of working from within to create change really resonated for me. The tangible examples help to ground some sophisticated policy maneuvering in reality and practice. This is a must-read for anyone who thinks that large, bureaucratic institutions are immovable or needs the guidebook/manifesto to spur them into action.. this should be required reading for every MBA, MPP, communications and engineering program out there - corporate idealists are needed throughout the business world and Bader's book is a perfect jumping off point.

Do you need to check your ideals at the door when you start working for a large corporation? In her new book, The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist: Girl Meets Oil, Christine Bader answers that question with a firm NO! But, she warns, don’t expect it to be easy.Ms. Bader started at BP Oil as a starry-eyed business school graduate expecting to change the world. Her book provides a balanced account of both failures and hard-won successes as she struggled to promote corporate responsibility. Her writing style is light and breezy, as she interweaves her BP experience with the experiences of other corporate idealists and the lessons she learned. But her message is deadly serious. In light of events like the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the Rana Plaza Factory collapse in Bangladesh, the lessons in Ms. Bader’s book, and the ideals it embraces, have never been more important.

As someone from a business operations background moving into the sustainability side mid-career, with no real training in sustainability or Corporate Social Responsibility, this book has given me a lot of insight in how to best communicate the value of sustainability to my colleagues in other parts of my organization - what language to use, and how to make the best case for moving forward with sustainability as a key element in business planning.

Sustainability professionals share all too often the business-case-after-the-fact information that is often what we "think" we need to know. But the true story of what it's really like in the trenches is what Christine shared in her compelling book. I saw Christine speak at the ISSP Conference in Denver this year (2014) and the way she shares is an incredibly powerful boon to anyone hoping to do this work for a living - as I do. If you read enough books about sustainability, you'll realize they say largely the same things. Not the case here. You won't hear anything like this from the social and human rights side of the table anywhere else. A nice companion might be Stress-Free Sustainability: Leverage Your Emotions, Avoid Burnout and Influence Anyone

First released at the beginning of the dot.com bubble, this book was prescient in its understanding of how the Internet, or the World Wide Web in particular, would change business organizations and behavior. The book is actually a synthesis of several authors, though David Weinberger seems to be the primary author. The book starts with 95 theses, or statements, about how the WWW is changing business and what businesses need to do to survive or even succeed in this new environment. The quantity of 95 of course refers to the 95 theses nailed on the door of the church by Martin Luther to begin the Protestant Reformation. After the 95 statements, the subsequent chapters explore how relations between consumers, customers, workers, entrepreneurs, managers and investors are changing both within the corporation and within the marketplace. Along the way, the authors give great insight into how the form and function of markets have changed over the centuries as technology has changed. And the central theme is humanity. With the Internet becoming more widespread, the conversations between customers and suppliers is moving back to what markets originally began as, a place for conversations that might or might not involve money... What an interesting thesis? The onset of the world wide web that is supposedly eliminating the need for face-to-face contact has actually done the opposite, it is forcing organizations like companies to cater to the most human of needs... the need to socialize.

The world has changed in regards to how to market goods to an ever diversifying marketplace. The authors do an outstanding job explaining the change and where to go from here.Main premise: Until the late 1800's/early 1900's the world mainly traded as an agrarian society. Markets were local meaning we traded in our own village and local societies. Markets like these were very personal. With the onset of the industrial age, markets became impersonal and markets were spoken to in masses through large advertisements and other one-way mediums. Today, the world is turning into a mass-agrarian society. Through technology and transportation the world is becoming small and advertising has become two-way meaning the consumer has a voice. Great for the consumer. Challenging for the marketer. Marketing to niche portions of the population requires carefull thought and creative mediums.Review of content: While several points are made repeatedly, the reader definitely connects with the main points and logic. These authors do an excellent job highlighting the situation and creating the recipe market in this new environment.

In The Cluetrain Manifesto, we see the classic sign of a revolution. Even the reviews here show it. The sign is this: controversy. Loosely quoting some dead guy, "If an idea does not at first seem absurd, it is doomed to failure." Marketeers, execs, and PR Heads all agree, the idea of actually letting your marks and your worker bees communicate freely is absurd. Yet, given the demand for it, maybe the market is on to something. That something is not new, just as the Manifesto will tell you. That something is a return to business in a networked market, rather than a disconnected, you'll-never-see-who-made-this market. The similarities between Omar needing a new flying rug, and asking his neighbor (who's in the business) what he should look for in a quality flying rug, and me looking for a computer and looking at what other consumers had to say about the company I found a great price from, are obvious. If I need information on a product, the first place I go is to my computer. If need be, I then go to the phone (a form of market equalization that was never fully exploited). If the web had been prevalent twenty years ago, my father wouldn't have bought a PC Jr, because he would have known what people on the inside were saying. And hey, make it a two-way street, and people on the inside will know what we require from their company. Nice, eh? That's the core of the book, and while the truths are fairly self-evident, the Cluetrain Manifesto goes all-out to explain them in the gonzo-est way possible, to the people who need to open up most: the companies.
