I'm just mind blown about all the information and how many people are being mentioned and talked about in this book, and I'm only just finishing the prologue!!This book is seriously worth the buy, and I can't wait to delve deeper into pages.Joel Garreau, you really made a solid book!!

Garreau sheds a definitive light on the subject of technology, and our current human endeavors that may not be known by the masses. Too often after college or grade school people separate themselves from academic reality, and even more so, especially in America, from reading in general. Some may say all of this is "fantasy" or science-fiction posited as constructive journalism, with those I have to dissent. This book gives credible references and attempts, by my interpretation, to draw forth a biased perspective. Those that naysay on the subject matter of this book are overlooking the fact that everything we as humans have created started off as a thought, and subsequent to that thought we achieved the fiscal support and intellectual minds to experiment, persevere and manifest that thought through trial and error into reality. I think by far, one of the most vivid elements of this book is how well it shows how close the gap of science-fiction and reality really is. The thing that elicits the most fear is the fact that these are the items of technology that are declassified or been around for a while; what about those that are classified? How far are we ahead in the realm of technology when it comes our inconspicuous technology?The book itself is a gem for the possibility of the future and current expeditions in technology, both theoretically and practically. All of this is presented in a very eloquent fashion that exemplifies Garreau's superb writing skills that can even appeal to the laymen. The level of detail that Garreau delves shows how well researched the book actually is. Within the first forty pages of the book there is a myriad of examples showing the foresight of the human population and its technology. This piece of literature is also a very good initial point to begin in reference to our technological endeavors, because it harnesses so much of it. With thirty-four pages of end notes and references, along with thirty-three pages of suggested reading, Garreau gives those that are interested in learning more about the subjects, and/or those interested in refuting his work, plenty of information to vet the information at hand.The only negatives I can bring are: Garreau over extends the need for "painting" the picture. There is a lot of excessive and unnecessary supplemental writing in the book, but in his defense, keeps it from being so dry; also, it lacks pictures, I would think that would be essential for investigative reporting.Some quotes that standout throughout the book that exhibit profundity on the subject at hand:Pg.42 "It is a snapshot of one small portion of one organization is working on in the first decade of the 21st century." - This is in reference to DARPA and their technological plans.Pg. 52 "...it's not clear that there are any practical limits represented by quantum physics, human ingenuity and the market...Whether our will can shape limits is the core issue..."Pg. 106 "In every civilization, in every era, we have given the gods no peace." - On human ingenuity and intellectIn the end this book caused me to revisit much more than my conception of technology. Our human culture is being transcended, by my opinion, by it and we need it to expand into the cosmos. Garrea's book caused me to think about a number of things and from this reading I have written thirteen pages of notes, so it definitely causes one to think. - D.R.Thomas

Just finished reading this book, and I must say that it is the perfect book for anyone who wants to read about cutting edge technology from the perspective of someone relatively unbiased. Unlike popular figures who promote or scorn the future of human science, Garreau explains the situation intelligently, using several examples from people with all different points of view. I recommend this book for anyone who wants a brush up on where technology is going, as well as anyone who might be interested in reconciling their current views with the other side. Everyone might not get the same things as me out of this, but thanks to Garreau's book, I'm beginning to come to terms with my place in where it looks like this world- and humanities role in it- might be going.

This book was written several years ago, but it's not dated. The concepts the author explores are still in development; following bleeding-edge technology news sites will show you that. He may be ahead of the curve a little bit in telling you about what kinds of impacts they might have in the future, but not all that much. It's important for us to look at and think about these possiblities now, so that we'll be prepared for them as they arrive.The book is well written and easily accessable. I bought a copy for my mother, so she could finally understand my fascination with GRN technologies and the coming social, political, and biological upheavals that will likely result from them.

The author presents a broad selection of other people's opinions on 'human enhancement' in a well-written, entertainng book. He does not perform a critical analysis of those opinions, just presents them for you to use to make up your own mind. Because the author doesn't really show strong opinions of his own, this book will likely not be as controversial or polarizing as the books of the people's opinions contained in the book.I enjoyed this book and it is a good overview, but I enjoyed more reading the original books and articles.

Lucy Mathew, NP is a nationally certified Nurse Practitioner with a Masters degree in the specialty of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from UCLA. She has nine years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. For the past five years, she has been managing patients with hepatitis B, hepatitis C, cirrhosis, and post transplant patients. She has medically managed pre- and post-operative cardiac surgery patients. She also has six years of experience in medical/surgical and critical care units as a registered nurse. Lucy works in Los Angeles at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center liver transplant department. She is actively involved in teaching other health care members about the importance of recognizing liver disease early and preventing complications. She is passionate about the subject and takes an active role in teaching physicians, nurses, and the community about liver disease. Jill Chang, PA-C is a nationally certified Physician Assistant in the field of Hepatology and liver transplantation. For the past 2 years, she has been managing patients with chronic liver disease including pre- and post-liver transplant patients. She has worked in general Gastroenterology with special emphasis in Hepatology. She works in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center liver transplant department and teaches Physician Assistant students as a guest lecturer at the University of Southern California Physician Assistant program. My girls have been fans of the Elephant & Piggie series for about five years. We have almost all of the books in the series; they have helped all three of them learn to read. We were very sad when we heard that The Thank You Book would be the last Elephant & Piggie book, and we were looking forward to one last funny story with Piggie and Gerald.As The Thank You Book begins, Piggie declares that she is going to thank everyone who has helped her. Gerald worries that she is going to forget someone, but Piggie insists that she will not.And then Piggie proceeded to thank every secondary character in the entire series, and I tried not to cry. They are all there, and fans of the series (like my girls) will enjoy seeing familiar friends. Gerald continues to worry that Piggie will forget someone- who could she possibly be forgetting that thank?The illustrations are relatively simple. Gerald and Piggie appear against a plain white background, and this places an emphasis on their facial expressions and body language. Gerald and Piggie communicate with each other via voice bubbles; the book consists of a conversation between the two friends and their acquaintances.I would recommend The Thank You Book to fans of the Elephant & Piggie series. My girls laughed as they recognized all of Elephant and Piggie’s friends. If you aren’t familiar with the series, this probably is not the best book to start with because you won’t understand why Piggie is thanking all of these other animals. If that is the case, I would suggest starting with any of the other books- they are all funny books ideal for beginning readers.My girls and I are not sure what Mo Willems has planned next, but we are looking forward to it.

Mo I love you...Mo I hate you...Well, not really hate, but to think that never again will I rip open another box to see my two favorite characters smiling out at me. To hold up a new book in front of a class and hear cheers and applause. These two friends are simply beautiful. As an elementary school librarian I delight in introducing these two characters to my early readers. At our Spanish immersion school the stories are perfect for either our English or Spanish speakers with simple, but sweet story lines and illustrations that transcend language.For the Piggie and Elephant fanatic this book is a perfect goodbye. Favorite characters return, including that slippery Pigeon. Piggie and Elephant reaffirm the embodiment of friendship and love. I cannot say enough nice things about this book. I have a 2nd grade student in one of my reading intervention groups that just adores the "Elephant and Piggie" series. The whole series was a bit too hard for her, but she loved the series so much that she kept reading them over and over by herself, with friends or with her mom until she was able to read the whole book all by herself. The series by Mo Willems pushed my student to a whole new level. I bought this book especially for her and her eyes immediately lit up. She read and reread it any chance she could get throughout the school day.

I agree with the others. This book is definitely better if your child is already familiar with the Piggie and Elephant series characters. That being said, my son has read several of them and has loved them all, including The Thank You Book. This series has really helped him become a confident reader. Before he discovered Piggie and Elephant, he didn’t really care for reading. Most books were boring or too difficult for him. The stories are simple but there are lots of pages and he feels like he’s reading a big book! He loves the silly plots and his favorite is finding the pigeon! Definitely recommend to anyone whose child struggles with wanting to read!

My 7 year old's favorite author and series of books. She cried when she found out this was the last book in the elephant and piggy series. We preordered it and it did not disappoint. As usual, Gerald and Piggie are a joy to read. The perfect last book where they thank the reader. My daughter thought they were talking to her. She was even inspired to write a letter to Mo thanking him.Thank you Mo Willems for all the joy you have brought to our reading time!

If you have a chance to purchase More Willems books, DO IT! We have so many! Our children love them! We read them over and over, and I don't even mind! Elephant and Piggie are the best! Yay No Willems! Can you find the pigeon?The Thank You Book taxes children to be grateful! And I love that must the the Elephant and Piggie books break that 4th wall and include my children in the story!

Mega Man games are usually not challenging enough to need a guide. But in this day and age a lot of strategy guides are collector's items. This one throws in a few extra things to make it a more worthwhile investment... as it should and we'll talk about that later. First, let's point out that for Mega Man 11 this guide is excellent and if you're struggling in your travels in anyway this will help you out.The guide begins, as many of them do, with all the basics. So you'll learn about the controls, the things you can make in Dr. Light's Lab and the basic controls of the game. If you're familiar with Mega Man you won't need this section at all. The only thing you might considering perusing this section for might be to find out how to get some items in Dr. Light's lab available. It does help you understand the Double Gear System, but Mega Man 11 is as basic as most Mega Man games come. The guide seems to know this as well because it really doesn't spend that much time here before jumping into the walkthrough.This is where the guide is pretty remarkable. If it's possible for a strategy guide's walkthrough to be overdeveloped this might be it. That's not an insult. The guide leads you through the stages in the preferred "weakness" order. Each level will give you an overview of the stage, tell you about the gimmick you may need to look out for (such as falling blocks in Block Man's stage or the flame wall in Torch Man's stage). It'll also show the enemies present in the level and there's a handy chart for each one that shows you which weapons they're most weak against.The walkthrough itself is written similar to old Nintendo Power type walkthroughs. That is to say there are highly detailed maps. These maps point out enemies for you and items, but you'll also notice numbers on the maps. These are waypoints. Each time you see one on the map, find the number in the text and it'll detail what you need to do at that location. Mega Man 11's levels are long, but some of these maps have several waypoints and tips on them and it can sometimes feel like a fairly text heavy guide for what amounts to a more simple game to play. It's all incredibly detailed and fantastic, but not really the kind of guide to keep using on the go. It's better to treat it as a reference text, which the guide is perfectly designed for.As the guide goes in a weakness order it is also leading you in that direction. Meaning a lot of the strategies for bosses entail detailing the use of the weapon they're weak against more so than preparing you for the various attacks. It doesn't mean it isn't there, but it could give you a little more. Some bosses move really fast or have attacks that take up a great deal of the screen space (especially in Superhero mode) that it would've been nice for the guide to prepare players more for defensive play as well as offensive play.The walkthrough ends by helping you out with all of the various challenges as well. There are maps for the all the balloon challenges for instance. And it's all very nice.Just to include all of that would make the guide perilously thin. That's not something that happens often anymore as most strategy guides are huge. The second half of the whole guide is dedicated to featurettes that detail Mega Man's more than 30 year history. It goes pretty in depth on the first ten games in the classic series, even giving you weakness charts for each enemy. There is also plenty of artwork and some brief glimpses into the history of Mega Man . The guide then goes into the other Mega Man series out there. It'll talk about X, Legends, Zero, ZX and Battle Network (to name a few) but these games only get quick overviews rather than the more indepth stuff found with the first ten games. There is also an interview with the game's producers and also some fan art included for good measure.All this makes for a spiffy looking guide, but this also brings about one of the biggest issue. This guide is great for Mega Man fans and collectors, but there's something kind of strange about the fact that at the current list price the guide cost more than the actual game itself for what amounts to the combination of a strategy guide and an artbook. It's not a bad package by any means, but you are paying much more for this than you are the game.You are not likely to absolutely need this guide for Mega Man 11. The biggest reason to own this would be if you are a huge Mega Man 11 and you're interested in celebrating Mega Man's return and 30th anniversary. It's a great walkthrough, it's a gorgeous cover and it has some nice bonus material, but for a strategy guide it's a little expensive.

I'll start off by saying that the Mega Man 11 content is amazing. Very detailed walkthroughs of each level, and lots of information on general enemies and bosses. That's honestly where this book should have probably ended. It covers all of the classic series as well, but there are noticeable errors. The one that stood out to me is in the Mega Man 5 section. They show a picture of the boss select screen from Mega Man 4 where the boss selection screen from 5 should be shown. I don't understand how an error like that goes unnoticed because it's glaringly bad and noticeable to fans.For a book that touts the 30th anniversary of Mega Man in its title, there is surprisingly very little information about the rest of the series in this book. The X games have a small section, the rest of the series including the Zero games have small footnotes. It all seems a bit rushed to me. Maybe if we get another X game, they'll do another book like this.If you want something that covers Mega Man 11 really well, this is your book. If you're buying it for the classic content, you need to look elsewhere. If you're into the art of the series, I suggest the new printings of Mega Man and Mega Man X Complete Works that are coming out soon. Those books usually aren't printed for very long and become pricey in the secondhand market. I own a paperback of the X series art book and it's great to look at, and has some info on each game in it.

The lithograph that was included is really nice looking and all the extra Mega Man stuff at the end of the guide was pretty cool. The screen shots could've been sharper but there still nice and the maps are great for this game. Includes everything you need to beat the game and challenges all with maps and enemy info. I find it sad that prima is shutting down since I collect strategy guides but I'm glad Mega Man 11 made the cut.

Half of the book is about the Mega Man 11 guide and some details of the game and the other half is about the other games. There aren't many new art pieces besides the MM11 ones, but there are some neat details and interviews inside that could be of interest for the lore of the franchise. The book itself looks to be made with quality materials and the thought put into it is noticeable. The exclusive art piece is nice, even Over-1 is there!If you love Mega Man or video game history this is a good choice for you.

Got it for my 9 year old son who loves MegaMan as a pre-Christmas gift (we own several MegaMan games and he had asked for 11 for Christmas. He LOVES it! It's pretty cool and full of information. Came on time and in perfect condition.
