This has been a really challenging set of grooves and exercises so far. My only regret is buying the electronic version. I did it for the convenience of using my iPad, which I attach to my hi-hat stand. However, you don't get the CD with the grooves recorded that way, so sometimes it's harder to know what the end result *should* sound like. That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Otherwise, it's a great book that will push your playing no matter where you are skill wise.

Beyond the stated and obvious benefits of studying the exercises from this book, there are collateral benefits as well. I have found three weeks into faithfully practicing these exercises, that my time feel has gotten cemented. I have always had good time but my pocket has gotten so much deeper since beginning to practice from Future Sounds. Logically it makes sense because we are practicing sixteenth note subdivisions with changing accents and feels on both hands and feet. The aim of course, is to feel these subdivisions and to make these rhythms groove. By so doing, my feel has become so much more natural to the point of getting comments from the audience about the pocket I've been setting. I've worked out of various books which are meant to improve the drummer's time concepts but none have done me as much good as working from this book. To have great time, you've got to get the whole idea out of your head and into your hands. Great time is felt! You have to feel it to make it happen. These exercises really help. Also, applying the principles from the George Stone Stick Control book help you to play these rhythms so much better. My overall "flow" when playing with the band has been enhanced greatly as a result of practicing Future Sounds exercises. If the book promised nothing more than the things I've already mentioned, it would be worth the price of admission. Of course, these are the things that AREN'T mentioned in the ads for Future Sounds. Suffice it to say that practiced regularly and with commitment, Future Sounds delivers on its' promises and then some. Recommended for intermediate to advanced players and to all drummers, especially those who want to get in on David Garibaldi's "secrets" of funk drumming.

Great book for learning to play with more subtlety, dynamics and creativity on the kit. This was one of the first books my drum teacher had me crack open after a 20 year hiatus from the drums (played a bit in high school, got distracted by guitar and hand percussion for a few decades and then came back to drum kit in my mid thirties once I finally had a basement I could set a set up in.) This isn't an easy book to get through and some of the exercises will have you gnashing your teeth but it's BEAUTIFUL when the lessons finally sink in and you feel that GROOVE flowing through all four of your limbs. I've been grinding my way through this book (among a few others like "Stick Control" and "Syncopation") for the last two months and have seen my playing grow by leaps and bounds. I'd agree with some of the other reviewers that it's not a "beginner" book, and honestly it was probably a bit above my level when I stared digging through it, but it's pure meditation and accomplishment going through this thing and learning how to drum with more funk and musicality.Plus it makes my brain hurt.Highly recommend.

I love the beats and teachings, but the copy I recieved has permutation studies that differ from my instructors copy(that he’s had for many years)... he is one of the states best instructors and he says he has never seen that happen haha. I was hoping for a chance to receive a replacement but it looks like my return window has shut

This is a great book that teaches skills that can be applied to many other drum books. David teaches how to develop permutations of a groove. It you have a drum groove with eight notes, if you shift the notes to the right once, you have a new groove called a permutation of the main groove. If there are eight notes in one groove, you can potentially create eight permutations of the original groove by shifting all the notes on the snare and bass drum to the right once. When you have done this eight times you are back at the original groove. So if you have fifty eight note grooves, you can create four hundred permutations. You can take a book like stick control and create thousands of permutations. The results of playing all these different combinations is a greater vocabulary on the drum set. To be a monster and versatile, you need to practice as many permutations as you can figure out. David has shown us how to create permutations. Lets say you wanted to create sixteenth note permutations. Instead of shifting eight times, you would have to shift sixteen times to come back to the original. So, fifty original grooves multiplied by sixteen permutations for each groove equals eight hundred permutations all together. This concept is infinite and can be applied to any drum book other than "Future Sounds" that you will potentially own in a life time. Great stuff. I hope this has been of benefit to you. I got this book about six months ago and it sat there until yesterday because I had ordered multiple books at that time. Boy was that the wrong choice. I started working out of it yesterday and I’m excited about the possibilities that have been opened to me in just the first 3 pages. It works your brain for sure. Get this book. Your brain will hate you but your drums will love you.

If you're anything like me, this book made you realize just how little you really know. A lot of the exercises that involve playing different dynamics on different limbs were soul-crushing at first. I didn't know that something so simple could give me so much grief!I can't say that I use this book's grooves a lot in my playing (some of them are downright esoteric unless you're playing some way out there, funky avant-garde stuff ), but the exercises have done so much to improve my coordination and feel. If you're feeling cocky and need a book to take you down a peg, this one will do it!

some of this information is good. the author has real inflated ego and it gets in the way of the telling and haring of the information. im sure that to her she is really important....AND everything she thinks she is (and good goddess is she kidding?) is real..the book could do well with a impartial, and harder edit. (the little high school doodles, the constant reference to self, and her poetry would be the first things i would say if she ever gets to a second printing should be eliminated.) what is currently clear and usefu-lthe information on om, how to run a kirtan .

This is a remarkable book, and as far as I know there is nothing like it.This is a complete exploration of the art and practice of kirtan (call-and-response singing) based on the author’s obviously extensive experience. It includes insights into the effects of chanting and the effects of sound (and Sanskrit in particular), helpful guidance in participating and leading, insights on composing your own chants, and an exploration of the deities, whose energies and grace are invoked in chanting. The author also shares some beautiful poetry and wisdom related to chanting and devotion from great saints and ancient works.It is also a personal bool. We come to see that we have entered the world of the author’s individual path. And her own extraordinary experiences are some of the highlights, starting with the great introduction. She even contributes nicely to the artwork that is liberally sprinkled throughout.I see books in various fields that claim to be for the beginner and experienced alike, but this is really one of them. Anyone who has been chanting or meditating for a long time will feel it is written for them. And those who have never or rarely chanted or meditated will feel the same way. It is a remarkable achievement in that way. (The glossary alone is worth the price of the book.)Not every reader will share every thought the author has about chanting or its role on the spiritual path. But all should come away with a greater understanding and appreciation for kirtan, and for bhakti and devotion in general.Highly Recommended.

I've practiced meditation and yoga for many years but came to chanting much later. Much of it was in another language and seemed foreign to me. But, over the years I've come to enjoy chanting in groups. I wish I had this book when I started, it's full of insight and valuable information about the origins and practice of this most valuable sacred path. It's extremely well researched and insightful. The writer obviously has a great affection for the subject and comes to the subject along with a lifetime of knowledge. This is certainly the best book on sacred chantingI've ever read. Well done…..

I was in my early teens during the hey-day of the Black Panther Party, and my impressions of the Black Panthers were filtered through the conservative world view of my parents and local media. However, after reading Black Against Empire, I realized that everything I thought I knew about the Black Panthers was wrong. This text is Exhibit A in demonstrating the need for a Black History Month.Black Against Empire is a thorough and exhaustively researched history of the Black Panther Party. It is an engrossing read despite its scholarly nature. The authors deserve praise for writing in such a clear, readable style, and avoiding the use of jargon. I highly recommend this book for *all* audiences because it serves as a much needed balance to the prevailing negative view of the Black Panthers.In order to provide this balance, the authors had to present a sympathetic view of the Black Panthers. The authors manage to do so while still maintaining a balanced perspective in their own text. In no sense were the authors cheerleaders for the Black Panthers. "Here are the facts, the whole story," they seem to be saying; "make up your own mind about the Black Panthers now that you have a more complete set of facts."It is indisputable that violence was associated with the Black Panthers. The full name originally adopted by the group was the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. In fact, the Party's demise was in part due to its leaders' reticence to initiate a program of guerilla warfare.Instead, the Black Panthers focused their earliest community organizing efforts on public service programs such as providing free breakfast for children, opening schools, distributing clothing and shoes, and offering bus service to prisons so that families could visit their incarcerated relatives.In sum, the Black Panthers demonstrated how to become ungovernable. I was reading through the reviews below, and found this older review. Really glad I did! It convinced me to buy the book.--I thought I knew.By M.H.on February 25, 2013I have read a lot about the Black Panthers including most of the memoirs (Seize the Time, Taste of Power, This Side of Glory, Soul on Ice, Assata, Panther Baby) and several good books on narrower pieces of the history (Living for the City, Survival Pending Revolution, Murder of Fred Hampton). So I was looking for a big picture, and didn’t expect to learn much detail here. But I was shocked. There was something new on every page. Who knew that the FBI paid a highly placed agent (William O’Neal) to write stories in the Black Panther encouraging party members to torture suspected informants? Or that the commonly reproduced “October 1966” ten point program is actually from July 1968? Or that women Black Panthers hotly contested gender dynamics in the Party at the United Front on Fascism Conference? And even the events I was very familiar with (like the early police patrols in Oakland, or storming the Assembly in Sacramento) the authors put these in a whole new light, placing the events in a broader context and relation to one another in a way that it all makes sense.Most important for me was the analysis. The authors show HOW the Black Panther Party built POWER, step by step. In Part I, they trace the roots of the Panthers’ political practices, and explain their initial successes patrolling the police. It’s telling that when black people figured out how to use gun laws to build political power, Reagan and the Republicans enacted laws to restrict the right to bear arms! In Part II, the authors show how the Party shifted gears once they couldn’t legally run the armed patrols any more. They go through this on all levels (theoretical discussion, lots of historical detail). I especially liked hearing about how the Party got organized in New York, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, and cities across the country. It is hard to believe how quickly the Party grew. In Part III they discuss the service programs, the repression, and mobilization by allies. I hadn’t realized the breakfasts and other community programs only came about in 1969. The authors show that the Party kept growing even when the government was attacking it the hardest. The Panthers were able to sustain their armed self-defense because they attracted support from so many sources. Not just radicals! I couldn’t believe organizations like the Urban League or mainstream politicians like Willie Brown were taking real action to oppose the repression of the Panthers. So much has changed today. And I knew there were Asian, and Latino, and even white groups that had copied the Black Panther Party. But I didn’t understand how important broader allies were in organizing on the ground support for trials, and community programs, and the newspaper, and keeping the Party growing. Part IV the authors talk more about those alliances, and some of the incredible international work the Panthers did, with China, Algeria, Vietnam, Cuba.As a long-time activist, these were the most important lessons for me. We can’t just take up arms and take over our communities. Anyone with sense knows that wouldn’t work today. But neither can we just march and sit in and demand civil rights and turn the other cheek. More black people are in jail today than were slaves before the Civil War. How can we do something about that? The authors don’t give easy answers to these questions. But they really helped me think about what it would take. If we are going to resist authority, we will be repressed. So who is going to help us face that repression?The last few chapters where the Party unravels were the hardest part of the book for me to read. So sad that things had to come to that. But ignorance is bliss, right? I was really grateful that the book didn’t pull any punches. And I think I am convinced by the authors’ arguments that the tensions that tore the Party apart were larger than the personal and organizational conflicts through which they played out, and had a lot to do with growth of the black middle-class, and the repeal of the draft.Thank you Drs. Just finished book two and think Mr. Frost should read book one and rewrite this and from the reviews, book three as well. There are several story lines from book one that do not show up in this book, this leaves me feeling a little cheated as a reader.Clearly the author is a talented and skilled writer with the ability to create great mental images and I commend him on this. What I miss is the thoroughness and completeness that the characters and the plot deserve. It seems that the series was written in bits and pieces here and there, more like a sideline rather than a full on project from beginning to end.I'm going to wait before purchasing the next book, in fact I may not read it at all after reading all the reviews. Sorry publisher you lost me. Rewrite and try again.

I really enjoyed this one. It wasn't as fast paced as the last, but there was a lot of things uncovered. There were a lot of questions answered, but a lot unanswered. I have to say that this trilogy, so far, is one of the best YA I have read in a while. Its about friendship, relying on one another, and being yourself. These group of friends are discovering who they are, what they can do and work together to fight the bad guys.Now, it's SOOOO over the top at time I was rolling my eyes, but I actually like that part of this series. I mean some of the things they talk about, you know no ordinary teenager would even think of...but this group isn't ordinary. And the ultimate betrayal hurts...ugh..I'm still mad. There is a love triangle, its last about four pages and Will does pine over these two girls but it's not the center of the story.THAT CLIFFHANGER!!! I was not expecting that AT ALL!!! And I'm like dangling here...waiting for the next book..not knowing when that is.*sigh*I recommended these books to my cousins daughter. She's an extreme book nerd and I know she will enjoy these books. I can't wait for book 3.

Another well-written installment in the Paladin Prophecy series. It's engaging and, as with the first book, keeps you guessing while still giving you just enough answers to keep you interested in what's going to happen next. However, unlike the first one, this one isn't as action-packed or fast-moving, and gets lost in the details for a good portion of it. The first half is really a setup for what's going to happen next.Despite that, it's still a great read, and has all the mystery and lovable characters, as well as some new ones that are not so lovable, to look forward to. I won't give anything away, but things get pretty interesting between a few of the characters, which I honestly did not see coming.

If you like Delcroix Academy You'll definitely like these two books. You will wonder what and who Will really is all the way through book one. It's got a lot of twists in it. lot of really weird things like from the show the Twilight zone which used to be on TV. Let's just say it's very different and has an original story plot for one.Not one copied from another book. I enjoyed it and think you will two. Think about this story! This could happen and could be going on right now. Will has a lot more goingon for him than Dancia Lewis had in The Candidates. ENJOY!!!!

I gave the first book in this series five stars. It had everything--cool plot, great characters, lots of action, vivid descriptions.This one...I still really liked Will, and the voice remained the same for him. But the other characters? It was like the author forgot who they were, Ajay lost all his personality and became a complete nerd rather than the personable technogeek he was in the first book. Nick became a caricature of stupidity (but I admit I still liked him a lot). Elise was fairly strong still, but the relationship between her and Will came out of nowhere rather than building even remotely naturally. And Brooke pretty much just became a non-person. Man, I hated her from page one of this book.And speaking of Brooke, the whole beginning with her was completely contrived. The author just summed up the situation rather than showing any real interaction that could make the reader care about what happened between her and Will. It did not work for me at all.That said, the whole underground city thing was very cool. And I'm really, really glad we at least got some glimpses of Dave in this one, because I adored him in the first book.I will read the next installment, if for no other reason than to see more of Dave and find out the answers to some questions. But I have to say, if this turns out to be longer than a trilogy, I'm going to be very irritated unless the author steps it back up *at least* to the kind of writing that was in the first book.

Exceptional, absolutely exceptional I would recommend this book to every Harry Potter, Hunger Game, fans only this book is a thriller, the suspenseful - have to finish, dying to know what happens next book out there. Mark Frost (TWIN PEAKS) has created new dynamic teen heroes and villains around. This book kept me at the edge of my seat and I had to finish it reading late into the night-early morning.This book is the absolute total package its' plot, creativity, drama, humor adventure etc. is so worth your time.WARNING-do not attempt to read this book without first reading the Paladin Prophecy.

Great story once it gets going, that said the beginning is lacking and jumps around. Starting a few months into soph year then jumping to summer where the meat of the story begins ...could of just started in the summer with a page of what's they had been doing rather than say hey we need to research a plan....a few months later after our researching we were ready .... Very few threads of the story are tied up although more details about the mystery are found in abundance

Again, a rather slow read. Difficult to really get through. Doesn’t get really exciting until the last 2 chapters. Ugh.

Our family enjoyed this book a lot! My only complaint is that I wish she hadn't called him a bum at the end. That's now my two year old's favorite thing to call people... Yay...

I love this story and read it as a child. I ordered it for Christmas for my girls and was so disappointed when it arrived. It is not a regular sized book like I had as a girl, but a tiny book that is the size of my palm. Looking over the description, I can see that if you click the "read more" link at the bottom, it does say that this is a mini book, but I really think it should be stated clearly in the page title.

It's ridiculous that you have to dig through the "read more" description to find out that this book is unnecessarily tiny, about 3 inches by 3 inches. Whomever designed this must not know anything about small children. My niece wanted to hear the story and look at the pictures but literally could not see them because everything was too small, so the present was completely useless. The size should be on the main description, not hidden in the detailed description. The book itself, though, is fantastic! We need more books like this for little ladies. I'm adding one star because it was very easy to get a refund and another because the book itself is very good, but that description is very misleading.

This story is fantastic. My daughter is like most little girls, she loves Disney Princesses and although I like them too I am not overly fond of the message they send. This story is a wonderful and funny way to counter that message. The problem I have with the ACTUAL product is the size. This book is tiny, itty bity, minuscule, etc. If I put this "book" in my purse it will disappear and never be found again. If your child likes to hold the book while you read to him/her, you will have an issue with the size of this little paperback. Granted, it is a cute size to behold, but totally impractical. If you can find a larger size, buy it. I have attached a photo of the book next to a penny and a business card so you can get a good idea of how small this book really is.

The rating is for the book, not the size of the book. After hearing of this book, we wanted to have a copy to read to our young family and friends. We were VERY surprised to see that this paperback was VERY tiny at only 3.5"inches x 0.1" x 3.5"inches. And after reading other reviews, it mentioned a 2nd picture showing the book in the palm of a hand. We did not see that when we ordered ours.We would never have thought we had to check the "size" of a book when it did not mention in the title that it was a miniature series book.That being said, we only paid $1.79, so we're not upset, just surprised. Our 3 year old family members will love it.

This book is a New Family Favorite!!!!!! The story line was a little harder to keep up with for a five year old but it does offer many laughs. When the Princess is standing there "naked", it elicited deep belly laughs from Julie. Even though the drawing does not really show the girl naked because she is covered appropriately, Julie laughed and laughed that how could a girl be naked in a book? My daughter loved that the girl was wearing a paper bag. Did she have any under clothes on? Oh No! Is she still naked? While my daughter did not get that the Princess is the one that tires out the dragon, she did think it funny that the Dragon could no longer burn up the Princess. She thought that the Prince was rude to the girl but then she thought that the Princess was rude to the Prince at the end as well. I am so glad we bought this book because it is one that will be read over and over and over.

The story is great - an engaging, fast-paced, and welcome counter-narrative to the princess-with-little-agency-who-needs-rescuing genre. It’s highly recommended by Mighty Girl, from which I clicked through in order to give them a small portion of the sale.The writing is a shade too spare and clipped for me, and while I like the illustrations, they don’t “pop” as much as some other books. One star off for that.A second star off for the packaging. It came in a one of those large mustard yellow lightly padded envelopes, and the mail carrier stuffed it into our mailbox. As a result, the paperback is somewhat curved and misshapen. Sturdier packaging would’ve helped. C’mon, Amazon!

Good book but tiny size. It should be stated more clearly in the title. In fact, the picture of the book shown is the original (which I have) and not what is received. Hence I was very surprised when I got such a tiny book. (See my the picture for the original vs what is received). As I see now that there is a second picture that shows its size but the first picture looks just like the full size original that I had. I also now see there were several reviews by people having the same problem and missing the second photoAnother thing I noticed is there have been some changes in wording which I think are not for the better.

I have been in the security and networking business for more than 15 years. Over the years I have been both on the technical and business side dealing with many aspects of security spanning reverse engineering, operational security, incident management, security product management and so on.I recently got interested in 802.15.4 (ZigBee, 6LoWPAN, etc.) and software defined radio (SDR) primarily from a security perspective. So I bought this book to have a practical guide on the matter. I have only processed the chapters that I was interested in but I can say I have been impressed. The authors are clearly very knowledgeable on the topic and they convey their message very well. I learned quite a lot.One caveat, this may not be for the complete beginner. Authors provide a 'simplicity' score for the attacks they describe (10 being the easiest, like using an already available tool to point and click; 1 being the most difficult like requiring you write a new exploit code yourself) so complete beginners may be able to find few attack concepts that they can try. But overall the book assumes you are technical minded and have some technical background.With that in mind, highly recommended to anyone looking for an in-depth understanding of wireless security.

I have owned the previous two editions of this book, and as always the authors do not disappoint. This book will let anyone with basic linux knowledge understand the tools and techniques to hack wireless networks with ease. There is also a new chapter on Software Defined Radios which is a great primer into the subject.

A great investment for anyone working in or wanting to learn more about pentesting and cyber security!

I found this book to be very detailed and informative on the subject. Chapter 14 on hacking Z wave Smart Homes was very interesting. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in wireless security.

Was waiting for this third edition for a long time, it was worth the wait.Goes in depth into the various wireless technologies and their hacks, but also suggests effective countermeasures.A must read for wireless security hackers, penetration testers, etc.

Good read for those interested in the various wireless protocols. It is written in a way that makes it easily understandable and yet still covers the details well.

Great book and understanding of wireless Device. Used it during two different type of wireless assessment. This is becoming my to go book for answering customers questions.
