About the Author

Martin Sherman was born in Philadelphia, educated at Boston University and now lives in London. His early plays include Passing By, Cracks and Rio Grande, all originally presented by Playwrights Horizons in New York. Bent premiered at the Royal Court in 1979, transferred to the Criterion Theatre and was then presented on Broadway, where it received a Tony nomination for Best Play and won the Dramatist Guild's Hull-Warriner Award. Bent has been produced in over forty-five countries, and has been turned into a ballet in Brazil, and, in 1989, was revived at the National Theatre. It has been voted one of the NT2000 One Hundred Plays of the Century. His next plays were Messiah (Hampstead and Aldwych Theatres, 1983), When She Danced (King's Head, 1988; Gielgud, 1991), A Madhouse in Goa (Lyric Hammersmith and Apollo, 1989), Some Sunny Day (Hampstead, 1996) and Rose (National Theatre, 1999). Rose received an Olivier nomination for Best Play and transferred to Broadway the following season. Sherman has written an adaptation of E. M. Forster's A Passage to India for Shared Experience (Riverside Studios, 2002; Lyric Hammersmith, 2004) and a new version of a Luigi Pirandello play, Absolutely! (Perhaps) (Wyndhams, 2003) He has also written the book for the musical The Boy From Oz which opened on Broadway in 2003. His screenplays include The Clothes in the Wardrobe (US title: The Summer House), Alive and Kicking, Bent, Callas Forever and The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone. Great play, but the printer/publisher did a crappy job, as the pages looked like a faded photocopy and made some of the pages harder to read.

It was just ok....nothing spectacular

No, the copy was not a good one. The characters names in the script were in a bold print but the dialogue was so faint it was almost impossible to read.

Irma Brenman Pick is a Distinguished Fellow and Senior Training and Supervising Analyst of the British Psychoanalytic Society. She is a past President of the Society. She trained first as a Child Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic in London, and then as an Adult and a Child Psychoanalyst at the Institute of Psychoanalysis, London. She served on many committees in the British Society and the International Psychoanalytic Association and has taught in a number of countries, including Australia, Brazil, Germany, Italy, India, Israel, Scandinavia, South Africa, and in the USA (Boston, Los Angeles, New York and Seattle). She is an Honorary Member of the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society and the Swedish Psychoanalytic Society.  M. Fakhry Davids is a Fellow and Training and Supervising Analyst of the British Psychoanalytical Society, Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Psychoanalysis Unit, University College London, Honorary Fellow at the Centre for Trauma and Refugees, University of Essex, and Visiting Lecturer at the Tavistock Clinic. He is the author of Internal Racism: A Psychoanalytic Approach to Race and Difference (2011). Naomi Shavit is a Fellow and Training and Supervising Analyst of the British Psychoanalytical Society. Budiansky, a writer at U.S. News and World Report, may not provide as many ``insights into the true nature of the beast'' as he hopes, but he serves up fascinating historical, behavioral, and biological nuggets about our equine friends. Troubled that our understanding of Equus caballus is badly flawed, Budiansky (Nature's Keepers, 1995) endeavors to set the record straight, clearing the air of ``what millenniums of tradition, love, and wishful thinking have sometimes muddled,'' and telling the horses' story through the ``objective tools of science.'' He starts at the beginning of domestication, 6,000 years ago, with the Sredni Stog people. They, it is surmised, either clambered atop the horse or ate him; their bones are mixed together at archaeological digs in the Ukraine, marking the onset of a long, fruitful association. Horses and humans discovered what they had in common: an intuitive language of dominance and submission, an adaptation to grasslands, a social fabric built on subordination to authority and trust. Budiansky's portrait delves into mitochondrial DNA analysis, the mechanics of movement and eyesight and vocalization, but he's hesitant to guess at the ultimate meaning of this data. He is less edifying but far more entertaining when he occasionally hazards subjective rather than scientific information, as in his observation of the horse's ability to interpret subtle social cues shared with humans (dispelling notions of horses as mind readers) or when he simply throws out an idea he has concerning their fabled homing instinct. And he's incisive when describing the curious world of the stud book and the ambiguous effects of inbreeding. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand horses - their minds, their behavior, physiology, and evolution. A fascinating, well-researched, beautifully written book that is as valuable as a reference as it is entertaining and elucidating. This book should be in every horseman's and horsewoman's library, right next to Monty Roberts' "The Man Who Listens to Horses". If you really want to understand what makes horses tick and how best to understand them, this is a must-read. From the mechanics of their movements to herd dynamics, the evolution of their grazing habits to inter- and intra-herd behavior, this book is full of details of interest to horse-lovers.

I am enjoying reading this..helps to understand horses more , and how sensitive they are, and how most training methods are too harsh. Now I think, "would I do this to a dog, child?" Before I work with a horse, I would not chase/ whip a dog around in circles to teach it to sit, why a horse? And they are more perspective than most animals.

This is the most interesting, enlightening and rewarding book about horses that I have ever read. It is the only book anyone needs to fully appreciate this beautiful creature, how it has evolved, lives, thinks, communicates and relates with others. It gives the reader an insight into the nature of horses that can only come from someone who loves and respects the creature, scientific research, and the light it can shed on the facts, and the fads and fantasies that have accompanied horses for generations.

I was not disappointed with this book. Very professionally written about what makes horses do what they do. It is not based on opinions but on scientific facts and observations. After reading it, you know more about why a horse spooks, is claustrophobic, is herd bound, etc. The more you know, the more you understand how to deal with your horses because you understand better why they behave that way. I recommend this book for anyone serious about learning the nature of horses.

This book is perfect if you are an experienced .Net developer, and wants to learn to build websites with ASP.Net.Building a website now days is complex because it involved many technologies . With ASP.Net alone , you ll go nowhere. You need to add some Html, some CSS, some JavaScript, some Bootstrap, some Knockout . This book shows how to knit all those technologies together. And that is very valuable. In addition to those technologies, he introduces some librairies from Nuget ( ie : EntityFramework , Linq.Dynamic, ...). By the end, you ll have a coherent set of librairies to build a web site. Clearly, the author made some choices here . But as a whole they make sense.As others reviews said , sometimes the code examples are a little off . But for an experience developers, that would not be an issue.Don't expect to go deep in each of these technologies. It's a short book. It gives you the key to continue by yourself.The book was published in May 2015 . As of October 2016, it is still up-to-date.Definitely , one of the best IT book I read over the last years. Not for beginner !

The Author makes a very clear effort in getting to straight to the point. I work as a Software developer/quality analyst and familiar with C#, MVC, JavaScript, bootstrap framework, and SQL so the only new topic for me here was the knockout.js library. I saw other previous comments prior to purchasing this book that almost changed my opinion but i'm glad that i went through with the purchase. I have been through the first five chapters and it took about an hour. The information is VERY light and the does not explain. A suggestion to other potential buyers: To be able to fully enjoy the book and what the author brings to the table you will most definitely need to be familiar with at least one object oriented programming language and also be familiar with at least one database management language...so if you are a beginner looking for extensive detail and explanation on specific topics this book may not be for you. Otherwise the book is a breeze the author does not waste time on things that i already know and explains a little bit of everything clear and concisely. As i've only quickly gone through a few chapters, i will update this if my opinion changes. For now...5 stars!UPDATE: Ok, i have gone through a better part of the book and noticed some minor annoyances for example in chapter 5, after creating examples 5-2, 5-3, and 5-4 you will receive an error in 5-3 similar to "...does not contain a definition for 'HtmlConvertToJson' and no definition..." this is because the author did not specify that you are missing the directive "@using BootstrapIntroduction.Extension" in your index.cshtml...this will lead to a few more errors like the unhandled self referencing loop in the HtmlHelperExtension.cs file. You should be able to figure it out but if your follow the examples directly, you will run into some trouble. Downgraded to 3 stars for incorrect examples

As others have said, the book has scattered code typos which can be nervewracking if you aren't already proficient in the stack the book is trying to teach you. For instance, the book refers to the queryOptions fields in knockout code with camelCase, but forgets to tell you set the QueryOptions model to be renamed when converted to json through JsonProperty. Small errors like this can cost someone new to web development a lot of time, even if they have a decent background in other types of programming. It provides a solid overview of MVC5, but much less so Bootstrap and Knockout, where code chunks are just kind of tossed in there with a cursory explanation but no real overview of the features used. While the book matches exactly what I needed to learn for work, I think most people would be better off with a good ASP.NET book and working through knockout tutorials online. It certainly would've saved me time.

This book helped me out at an urgent moment in a professional development project. I was at a crossroads in an entrepreneurial project for my boss and a business partner. We were already $32,000 in on a partnership project. Our partner company was hesitant to pay their half of development costs because our project wasn't showing as much user interactivity as the desktop program we were to convert to a subscription internet model.Then I discovered Knockout JS and this book and the authors other book on Knockout. It all happened at the perfect time providing me with techniques to replicate the very dynamic behavior of the desktop software I was converting to MVC 5.This book helped me save an at risk project. Highly recommended.

I'm very frustrated with this book. After completing chapter 8, the application doesn't work properly. After wasting days trying to troubleshoot, I went in search of the code to download, which I found on a github repo. I cloned the repo and loaded the project in Visual Studio. Turns out the problems I was having are IN THE PROJECT still. That means the tutorials in this book just don't work, in the end and you're left to figure it out, which I gave up on. I learned very little with this book, except how to use KnockoutJS, which is pretty cool but there are free tutorials on how to use it. The author flies through the chapters with little explanation. It seems you're meant to just copy down the code and then it doesn't even work. While I wouldn't say don't buy this book, I'll say don't buy it if you're looking for a beginning to intermediate book on ASP.NET MVC, this book isn't for you. It expects you to know MVC very well.

It covers more area than ITMB Toronto map Toronto & Ontario South Travel Reference Map (International Travel Maps), but less clearly. The typefaces are very cluttered, with bold type for too many landmarks, so the street names in faint type are hard to find downtown. Elsewhere the street names and one-way arrows are easy to see but not as clear as the ITMB map. Scale is 1:17,500, better than CAA/AAA (1:37,000), but not as good as ITMB (1:12,500). This map has a regional inset from Buffalo to Hamilton and Oshawa at 1:500,000.Unique features which I did not find on any other Toronto map are an inset of Niagara Falls at 1:25,000, and indexes of public buildings and neighborhood names. It also has metric and temperature conversion factors, and monthly average sunshine, humidity, precipitation, high and low temperatures. It shows Toronto Transit and GO commuter trains, but not street cars.This map goes from Toronto Islands in Lake Ontario to Eglinton Ave in N (4 km N of Bloor St.), and from a few blocks past Lansdowne Ave in W to Coxwell Ave and Don Mills Rd in E. It omits the Port of Toronto and Leslie St. Spit; ITMB also omits them, though they are on the CAA/AAA map. This Borch map goes farther N and E than ITMB, but not as far W. If you are in the area covered by this Borch map and not by the ITMB map, this will be helpful. Both are plastic, so will hold up in rain and heavy use.

This was very helpful when touring Toronto. I recommend the city bus tour if anyone is going and taking this map. You really get a great overall view of Toronto. The Niagara Region on this map was very helpful also. It helped us make our way from Niagara-on-the-Lake up the QEW to Toronto.

Difficult to read the street names, and even harder to fold back up. In a word, useless.

This map listed all major attractions, except the zoo which is quite a distance from the center of the city. The subway map was very useful. It was laminated and folded easily. Great buy.

Les Rowntree is a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, where he researches and writes about environmental issues. Her studies have explored human migration, natural resource use, environmental conservation, and regional development. Dr. Price brings to Globalization and Diversity a special interest in regions as dynamic spatial constructs that are shaped over time through both global and local forces. Her publications include the co-edited book, Migrants to the Metropolis: The Rise of Immigrant Gateway Cities (2008, Syracuse University Press) and numerous academic articles and book chapters.   Bill Wyckoff is a geographer in the Department of Earth Sciences at Montana State University specializing in the cultural and historical geography of North America. Snooze. .....what a bore! Globalization? More like suffocation.....Diversity? Left me thirsty! Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of William Wycoff’s smash hit, Diversity amid Globalization! With an arresting visual layout designed for today’s learners, Diversity Amid Globalization emphasizes the connections and diversity between people and places — challenging you to compare and contrast the regions of the world within thematically organized regional chapters. What a page turner it was. Didn’t sleep for four days or nights, just couldn’t put it down! Heck, thinking of getting the hardback for those “ROUGH DAYS,” HAHAHAHAHAHA, you know what I mean, learners!

I bought the book for my Regional Geography class at City College of San Francisco. It covers all regions of the world, some more extensively than others. It offers great pictures and information. However, the authors need to fix their typos and minor errors, so I take off 1 star. They need more editing, proofreading or to hire someone to do such. After all, it is not the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th edition.

I like it a lot! I heartily recommend this book, and college course, for a serious student of our world.As part of my current education plan of working towards my second bachelor degree, Geography is required, and glad it worked out this way. Although I am an experienced man of the world, I have not had a formal geography class since grade school, indeed, not even when in college the first time. Taking this course not only covers the location and topography of all the continents, oceans, nations, states , cities, but also other frameworks, namely:Environmental geography.Population & settlement, people on the land, population growth & change, demographic transitions, migration patterns.Cultural coherence & diversity: the geography of tradition & change, culture in a globalizing world, when cultures collide.Geopolitical framework: fragmentation, unity, nation states, colonialismEconomic & social development: geography of wealth & poverty, more- and less-developed countries, indicators of economic and social development.

Needed the access code for Mastering Geography that the title said it would come with and it didn't. So guess what I have to do? Ship it back and get a different one somewhere else.

This is a decent geography textbook. It has two chapters that introduce basic geographical tools and concepts. The next 12 chapters give overviews of world regions. The regional overviews cover physical geography, environmental issues, culture, politics, and history, among other things.

As an older woman returning to college, I picked Geography as on of my classes for the semester imagining in my mind specifics about what we were going to learn in class. I was wrong. It was so much more. I am sad that I have to return this book because the class was amazing. The class and this book made me feel as if I visited parts of the world I didn't know existed.It was very in-depth and surprisingly very up to date. This book contains all important historical information that has happened even after and 9-11. For each continent it talked about world globalization, environment, regions, temperatures, climate change, politics, conflicts, farming, trades, money, culture, language, migrations, land area, seas, lakes, mountains, drug trades, "The Red Market", everything! Also, it is very clearly written, very easy to understand with beautiful picture illustrations that include maps and sub heads to describe what is happening in a scene. Tables that show rates of population increase, who's increasing their population and how many cultures are not. GIS maps that give you a true look at what's going on with detailed explanation. This book is very well done.Although I found the chapters were very long and it would take more than a day or evening to get through one, they all had links to videos to watch which I found to be faster and extremely interesting and helpful in learning about certain areas of the world when time wasn't on my side, and those going to college know exactly what I mean.Anyone thinking about taking this class, especially those taking journalism and or photography who may be interested in making documentaries or those who like to travel or those just interested in the world should take this class and have the professor use this book! I am a photography major and love to travel and this class inspired me and fueled my desire even more to get out there and explore the world. I was sad to see the class end last night. This book made me feel as if I took off on a world tour adventure and now its over. Out of all my travels this was the best trip I have ever been on.Thank you for the rental of this book. I hope someone else gets as much out of it as I did.

Loose leaf may seem like a ridiculous textbook option however, this is the only way to go! Instead of having to carry the entire textbook to class, I just take out the chapter we are covering that week and put it in a smaller binder. Then, I leave the rest of the text at home which means a much lighter backpack! This option does come with a valid MasteringGeography access code and arrived to Hawaii when it was expected, without any issues.

Simply one of the best cookbooks ever written. The author is beyond talented. I think I can fairly say that out of nearly 300 cookbooks this is at the very top of the list, along with their second cookbook The Good Times cookbook. There is simply not a bad dish in the bunch. Seriously. And I'm VERY particular. If I were stranded on an island (with a kitchen LOL) I'd take the Silver Palate Cookbook, The Good Times cookbook, Oh She Glows cookbook, and a couple of others. That's it. Entirely too few really great cookbooks in the world - and this is one.

I bought the ebook version and my review is for thst, not the recipes themselves. The ebook version is clunky, divided oddly and out of place, and not one single picture. I'm reading on a fire 10. Two thumbs down, it's not really usable as is.

This cook book has the BEST recipes! I have made the carrot cake and several people asked me for the recipe. So I gave it to them, along with information about The Silver Palate cookbook in case they want to purchase it from Amazon or wherever. Thanks for a lovely cookbook,

I am so glad I ordered the 25th Anniversary Editiom. My goal is to read it slowly page by page. The beautiful photographs and the memories evoked of my early attempts at cooking are an added bonus. I will be returning to my youth and creating many of these beloved dishes. I can still hear the oohs and aahs of my guests of early years when I served these beautiful dishes. The added bonus is so many of the ingredients are a breeze to come by due to online shopping. It maybe a cliche; but, everything does come full circle...

Great selection of recipes. Was at a club meeting and someone asked which cookbook was a favorite. The Silver Palate Cookbook was mentioned many times. If you like chili, the Chili for a Crowd is a winner.

I have wanted this cookbook for years, and finally ordered it. My daughter-in-law has one, and uses it all the time. I was so impressed with the recipes, can't wait to use it myself. Thank you so much.

This 1972 book was a gift for a friend whose old copy was tattered and unbound. I searched for a nice replacement for awhile before buying it secondhand on amazon.com. This was a barely used hardback edition with a jacket, and she loves it! The recipes are delicious. Many are not particularly healthy since they contain cream or butter, but health-conscious people and cream lovers can both find plenty of things to try. Blueberry soup and mushrooms stuffed with spinach, walnuts and cheese are particularly tasty. I'm trying the ginger pumpkin mousse out on friends tomorrow. You won't go wrong with this classic cookbook.
